About Voices With Disorders
Our mission is to create a supportive community where people with voice disorders can find resources, share experiences, and advocate for greater awareness and understanding.
Our Mission
At Voices With Disorders, we believe that every voice matters, regardless of how it sounds. We exist to support individuals living with voice disorders through community connection, comprehensive resources, and active advocacy.
Voice disorders affect millions of people worldwide, yet many feel isolated and misunderstood. Our platform creates a safe space where people can share their experiences, learn from others, and find the support they need to navigate life with a voice disorder.
We work to break down the barriers and stigma surrounding voice disorders by educating the public, supporting research, and amplifying the voices of our community members.
What We Do
- Community Building: Connect people with similar experiences through our platform and local support groups.
- Resource Sharing: Provide comprehensive directories of healthcare professionals, support services, and educational materials.
- Advocacy: Raise awareness about voice disorders and advocate for better understanding and accessibility.
- Education: Provide accurate, up-to-date information about various voice disorders and treatment options.
Founder's Story
"I never imagined that losing my voice would lead me to find my true calling."
When I was first diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia, I felt completely alone. The medical professionals were knowledgeable about the condition, but I couldn't find anyone who truly understood what it was like to live with it day after day.
Simple conversations became challenges. Phone calls were avoided. I watched my confidence erode as my voice betrayed me in meetings, social situations, and even intimate conversations with loved ones.
But through this journey, I discovered something powerful: there were thousands of others experiencing similar challenges, feeling just as isolated as I did. That realization sparked the vision for Voices With Disorders.
I wanted to create the resource I wish I had when I was first diagnosed—a place where people could share their stories without judgment, find practical resources, and understand that having a voice disorder doesn't diminish their worth or their ability to contribute meaningfully to the world.
Today, our community includes thousands of individuals with various voice disorders, their families, healthcare professionals, and advocates. Together, we're changing the conversation about voice disorders and proving that every voice—in whatever form it takes—has value and deserves to be heard.
