Why I Started Voices With Disorders

For most of my life, I never thought about my voice. It was simply there — my way of speaking to family, friends, coworkers, the world. That changed after a surgery left me with scarring on both vocal cords. Overnight, my voice became hoarse, high-pitched, and different.

What followed were years of treatments and procedures — some gave me temporary hope, others left me disappointed. But the hardest part wasn’t the medical side. It was the emotional weight of living with a voice that no longer felt like my own.

I remember the anxiety every time I spoke in public. The stares. The questions: “What happened to your voice?” The pressure to explain something so personal in a split second. I learned how isolating a voice disorder can feel, not because we can’t speak, but because we fear how others will hear us.

That’s why I created Voices With Disorders.

This space is more than a website — it’s a community, a resource hub, and a place of belonging. I started it because I don’t want anyone else with a voice disorder to feel like they are alone in their struggle. I want people to know:

Your voice is still valid.

Your story deserves to be heard.

You are part of a larger community that understands.

Here, you’ll find stories, resources, and encouragement. You’ll hear from others who are walking their own path with a voice disorder. You’ll see that strength doesn’t always sound “perfect,” but it is powerful all the same.

My voice may be scarred, but it carries something stronger than sound: resilience. And through this platform, I hope to amplify not only my voice, but yours too.

Because together, our voices — hoarse, raspy, soft, or broken — can still create harmony.
